BEST CURLY HAIR CAIR-CONDITIONING

How you condition your curly hair has everything to do with how you wash it. When you wash your curly hair you have two smart choices.

1 - Use a sulphate-free shampoo created specifically for curly hair – like Rene Furterer's SUBLIME CURL, or Deva Curl NO-POO, along with conditioner.

2 - Co-wash - using a cleansing conditioner.

Both choices take about the same amount of time and trouble.

If you chose shampoo then rinse, go to step two for advice on choosing and applying your rinse out curl conditioner. If you prefer to co-wash, then you will spend several more minutes in the shower trying to rinse your hair clean and move on to join the rest of us at Step 3 - your leave-in curl conditioner.

Step Two- Condition Curly Hair After Shampooing

All curly hair is not alike, and so it is important to select the correct conditioner.

-If your curls are loose and your hair tends to be oily, use a lighter formula.

-If your curls are tighter and your hair is drier then use a thicker, creamier formula.

The rule is, the drier the curl the oilier the conditioner you use. If your hair is very damaged, then consider getting it trimmed - (ALWAYS by a curly hair expert). You cannot actually repair hair, no matter what the bottle says. What you can do is prevent future damage, and mask the effects of the damage temporarily. So know that you have to cut, or slowly trim some of the damage out as you condition your hair properly and protect it from further damage..

How you apply the curly hair conditioner is just as important as what you apply. Curly hair tends to see the most dryness and damage at the ends since the ends are the oldest part of the hair. Focus on conditioning the ends and then work your way up towards the roots. Use more on the ends, and very little at the roots--this will help maintain your hair’s natural shape by preventing oily buildup at the roots.

Then let the conditioner sit for at least five minutes (while you shave your legs, exfoliate, give yourself a mini-facial! whatever!). You can increase the time to fifteen or twenty minutes if your hair is badly damaged or unusually dry.

Rinse your hair with cool water. Rinse out your hair thoroughly, using cool water to lock in your hair’s natural oils and smooth your hair by sealing the cuticle. Run your fingers or a wide-tooth comb through your hair to detangle it while rinsing.

Step Three – The Leave-In Conditioner For Curly Hair

This is the number-one beauty must-have for any woman with lots of curls. And choosing the correct type is important. Many great companies make leave-in conditioners, or hair masks, especially for curly hair. Some offer products formulated for both frizzy and dry hair, others have created specialized products - either protein-based or moisture-based, to target specific issues.

In general, for thick, curly hair types, I recommend loading on heavy moisturizers, like oils and shea butter. Finer curls need a lightweight product that won't add too much weight. But how do we know if we need protein or moisture?

To test for lack of protein, just take a strand of your hair, wet it with water, then gently stretch it. if it returns to it's original length without breaking, you have properly balanced moisture/protein levels. However, if it stretches more than it should and breaks, you probably need protein. You have probably already noticed that your hair feels damaged and looks frizzy or broken.

We all know if our hair just needs moisture - it tends to be pouffy, and the curl is uneven and flat, the ends don't work in any style.

But if you are still in doubt, just turn to one of those products that were formulated to solve both issues.

Some of my favorite multitasking hair care products are:

Rene Furterer Sublime Curl's Blueberry Bliss Oribe Supershinen Shea Moisture

Curl Leave-In Cream Reparative Leave-in Moisturizing Cream Leave-In Conditioner

They can give your hair additional protection and make managing your curly hair a little easier. First, use a wide-tooth comb to gently comb through tightly coiled, textured hair. Apply a curly hair mask like according to the package directions, leave in, and style your hair as usual. This means do not use a hair drier - and if you really have to, use a diffuser.

More more curly hair Do's and Don'ts

Don’t use hot water – use Protein rich conditioner – then rinse out and towel dry – then warm up olive oil - 1-2 tbsp – massage into hair and through strands for several minutes. Soak a towel in warm water and then wrap around your ahir with oil in it – leave in for 10 minutes – this lets oil really soak in

Shower until water runs clear.

Blot once again with a towel. Put leave-in conditioner in hair and then air dry or – if you must use a dryer, use one with a diffuser set on low.
